The Settings Menu lets you tweak the various aspects of your gameplay experience.

Gameplay Settings

Setting Description Default Options
Allow Camera Shake When enabled, the camera will shake during certain actions like chopping, mining, etc. On On or Off
Bag Rows in Action Bar Sets the maximum number of Action Bar rows available during gameplay. 5 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Persistent Center Reticle Turns on a persistent reticle in the center of the screen, which can reduce motion sickness. Off On or Off
Hide Chat Timestamp Hides timestamps on all chat messages. Off On or Off
Language Sets language for in-game text and dialogue. English English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano
Sprint Setting Tap to Sprint: press key once to sprint until pressing the key again or stopping movement.
Hold to Sprint: hold key to sprint, release to stop sprinting.
Toggle to Sprint: press key once to sprint until pressing the key again.
Tap to Sprint Tap to Sprint, Toggle to Sprint, Hold to Sprint
Eat When Full When enabled, food can always be eaten, even if focus is full. Off On or Off
Wrap Action Bar When enabled, scrolling beyond the first or last action bar in your inventory will wrap around instead of stopping. On On or Off
Mode Streamer Mode hides your full username and the usernames of your friends and party members. Default Default, Streamer (Chat On), Streamer (Chat Off)
Fishing Cast Speed Controls the speed of casting your fishing line. 0.70 0.25 to 0.70
Activate own/others' chat bubbles These two settings allow you to view the most recent chat messages over your own head and/or the heads of others. On On or Off
Gamma Changes the gamma of the screen. 0.5 1.00 to 1.14
Text size of chat bubbles Allows you to set the text size in chat bubbles. 1.00 0.1 to 1.0
Maximum number of chat bubbles Allows you to set the maximum amount of chat bubbles shown at the same time. 25 1 to 25

Hints

Hints are tutorials meant to introduce you to features and mechanics. Once dismissed, they currently cannot be viewed again, so please read closely. Each hint will show whether or not you have viewed it yet. Enable First Time Hints is the only option in this tab, and it can be toggled on or off.

* Duplicate hints are treated as separate in-game, and therefore are kept as is in the table.

Graphics Settings

Window

Setting Description Default Options
Window Mode Window mode determines how the game is displayed. Windowed mode displays the game in a resizable window while windowed fullscreen mode still displays the game in a window, but it occupies the entire screen. Fullscreen mode occupies the entire screen so other windows cannot be interacted with. Fullscreen Fullscreen, Windowed Fullscreen, Windowed
Resolution Resolution determines the size of the window the game is played in. 1920 x 1080 (16:9) 1280 x 720 (16:9), 1280 x 768 (5:3), 1280 x 800 (16:10), 1360 x 768 (16:9), 1366 x 768 (16:9), 1440 x 1900 (16:10), 1600 x 900 (16:9), 1600 x 1024, 1680 x 1050 (16:10)

Graphics Quality

Setting Description Options
Quality Presets Quality presets set the quality of all other options within graphics quality. Low, Medium, High, Epic, Custom
3D Resolution 3D resolution determines the resolution the game is rendered at. This does not affect menus. 85%, 90%, 95%, 100%
View Distance View Distance determines how far from the player other characters, creatures, and objects can be seen. Lower values can improve game performance but higher values can be useful for gameplay. Low, Medium, High, Epic
Shadows Shadow quality determines the accuracy of shadows. Lower values may help the game run faster but reduce the visual quality of shadows. Low, Medium, High, Epic
Anti-Aliasing Anti-Aliasing smooths the edges of 3D objects. Lower values may help the game run faster but higher values will create a smoother image. Low, Medium, High, Epic
Textures Texture quality determines how detailed the textures on 3D objects are. Lower settings may help the game run faster but remove details from object surfaces. Low, Medium, High, Epic
Effects Effects quality determines the amount of detail in certain objects and interactions. Lower settings may help the game run faster but with less visual detail in specific objects. Low, Medium, High, Epic
Postprocessing Postprocessing quality determines the visual quality of details applied to an image after it is rendered. This includes certain lighting and camera effects. Lower values can help the game run faster, but will lower the visual quality of these effects. Low, Medium, High, Epic
Foliage Foliage quality determines the density and quality of grass, flowers, and some trees. Lower values may help the game run faster, but with less foliage. Items that can be picked up and trees that can be chopped down are not affected by this. Low, Medium, High, Epic

Advanced

Setting Description Default Options
Frame Rate Limit Frame rate limit determines the maximum frame rate that is allowed. Vsync may need to be disabled for higher settings. Unlimited Unlimited, 30, 60, 120, 160, 165, 180, 200, 240
Vsync When window mode is set to "Fullscreen", Vsync prevents screen tearing. Disabling this can lead to screen tearing but also allow for higher frame rates. On On or Off
Dynamic Resolution Dynamic resolution alters the resolution of the game while it is running to balance rendering times and create a smoother framerate. Off On or Off
HDR For systems that support it, enabling HDR increases the overall contrast and color range of the game's visuals. Off On or Off
Field of View Field of view determines how much is shown in the game viewport at once. Increasing this can impact performance. 90 30, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130
DirectX Version Select the DirectX version to default to. Changing this requires a restart. DirectX 12 DirectX 12, DirectX 11

Audio Settings

Setting Description Default Options
Overall Volume Controls the volume for all audio in the game. 1.0 0.0 to 1.0
Sound Effects Volume Controls the volume for ambience, foley, and sound effects. 1.0 0.0 to 1.0
Music Volume Controls the volume for music. 1.0 0.0 to 1.0
Dialogue Volume Controls the volume for all dialogue, including character efforts. 1.0 0.0 to 1.0
Panning Rule Provides a more realistic audio experience depending on your listening setup. Headphones Headphones, Speakers
Mix Profile Sets the dynamic range, which is the difference between the loudest and the quietest sounds.
Default - The default audio experience for Palia. Has very light compression to make quiet sounds louder and louder sounds quieter. Recommended for most users.

Midnight Mode - Heavier compression to make louder sounds quieter and quieter sounds louder. Also reduces low-end frequencies.
Studio Reference - No compression. This setting has the widest dynamic range. Used for calibrated systems.

Mute In Background Mutes all audio in the game when the game is not focused. On On or Off

Control Settings

Invert Mouse X Axis When enabled, moving the mouse up looks down and moving the mouse down looks up. Off On or Off
Invert Mouse Y Axis When enabled, moving the mouse left looks right and moving the mouse right looks left. Off On or Off
Camera Sensitivity Decrease or increase the speed the camera moves when moving the mouse. 0.5 0.0 to 3.0
Aim Sensitivity Decrease or increase the speed the camera moves when aiming while Hunting. 0.1 0.1 to 1.0

Gamepad Settings

Gamepad Settings are currently unavailable.

Build 0.173:

  • There is now a sensitivity slider for Hunting that controls the speed of the camera movements when aiming.

Build 0.172:

  • The Fishing Cast Speed description text now displays the correct information.
