General

  • The preferred spelling is in American English.
  • When possible, use the serial (Oxford) comma.
  • Game information, including names, descriptions, categories, and other related terms should reflect what is visible in the game, even if there may be inconsistencies.
  • Content should remain objective and focused on conveying information in a clear and concise manner. There should be little-to-no room to interject personal assumptions, beliefs, or speculation as an article writer.
    • This is especially true for the Trivia section. Please be mindful of contributions that fall more so under "tidbits" rather than "down-the-rabbit-hole."
  • Flagging content as incomplete can be performed by adding {{stub}} to the top of the section.
    • Please include an explanation of what may be needed by adding |explanation of missing information between stub and }}
  • Flagging a page that you are actively working on can be done by adding {{wip}} to the top of the page
    • Please include an explanation of what is being done and who is working on it, since old WIP banners can cause a lot of confusion.
    • Explanations can be added after a | inside of the WIP template

Quotations

  • Use neutral quotation marks (" " and ' ', not “ ” , ‘ ’, or `).
  • For quotations, use double marks. When nesting quotes, one should use single quotations.
    • Example: "Hey, but Nai'o said 'yes' when I asked if I could skip dinner tonight!"
  • Commas and periods are placed within quotations.

Article Contents

Characters

  • Information on character pages should be written present tense, unless the character is deceased.
  • Information should reflect the most recent events of the story available in the game.

Infoboxes

Every page typically will have (or should have) an Infobox, even if it is just the {{IconInfobox}}, to provide a space for the Table of Contents, and Other Languages selector on translated pages.

For a list of existing Infobox templates, see: Infobox templates
  • The desc (description) label is for the tooltip of the item in-game, not a user-submitted one.
  • The category label is for the category of the item in-game (found in the tooltip).
    • This means there is only one entry. It may not always align as a wiki category.
  • The group label can be filled with an additional user-defined category for the item in-game.
    • Ex. Fireworks are Equipment, but also part of the group Projectiles.
    • Typically this would be what players might categorize the item as.

Article Headings & Sections

All pages start first with an infobox. For a list of currently available infoboxes, see: Category:Infobox templates

Then visually the page starts with a brief introduction sentence, usually quite basic:

  • The subject is a type of thing in Palia.

Then, if it is any kind of item with a tooltip, we would have the description:

  • == Description ==

This is followed by the section on how to obtain it, if it is an obtainable thing:

  • == How to Obtain ==
    • This section can have subjections such as the following:
=== Cooking ===
==== Obtain the Recipe ====
==== Requirements ====
=== Recipe ===
==== Tips and Tricks ====
=== Reward ===
=== Foraging ===
=== Bug Catching ===
==== Behavior ====
==== Possible Drops ====
=== Fishing ===
==== Behavior ====

Next, is the item useful?

  • == Uses ==
    • At the time of this writing, the {{uses}} template does not cover every use, so some manually entered information can be found under these headings:
=== Quests ===
=== Bundles ===

Other sections can be included instead of the above, or afterwards, depending on the page contents:

  • == Modification == (for furniture pages)
  • == Variants == (for premium store items)
  • == Objective == and == Rewards == (for quest pages)
  • ... and more!

All pages end with some or all of the following sections in the following order:

  • == Similar Items ==
  • == Trivia ==
  • == Gallery ==
  • == Update History ==
  • {{NavTable/___}} (see Data Table - NavTables to choose the most relevant page-ender)

Note: Any pages using <reference> or {{cite}} will create a references list underneath the navtable.

For more details on developed article structure, see the templates available when creating a new page.
