Come Clean is a Romance Quest given by Reth upon reaching Romance Level 3: Dangerous Dalliance.

Description

“ Reth is determined to dig his own grave. Time to toss him a ladder. Gather the packages he hid in Bahari. ”

Objectives

Part 1

  • 0/1 Find the first shipment.
  • 0/1 Find the second shipment.
  • 0/1 Find the third shipment.

Part 2

Finish cleaning up Reth's mess, and return his packages to the store room.

↷ Drop the shipments off back in the storeroom.

Part 3

Now that you've returned the packages, it's time to talk to Reth about how he can clean up his act.

Part 4

Reth came clean! But now he wants to have a heart to heart at your place. What could that be about?

Walkthrough

  1. Upon reaching Romance level 3 with Reth, speak to him at your housing plot. Select the second option, "I really think you should tell Ashura the truth," to trigger this branch of the quest.
  2. Find all three packages in a secret spot in Bahari Bay. It's a cave inside the mountains on the bottom of the map, the entrance is in the ruins between Hideaway Bluffs and Windy Ruins. After that, drop off the merchandise in designated spots in the storeroom.
  3. Return to Reth and speak with him. If the quest dialogue doesn't show up, go to a different location (like your plot), then go back to the storeroom. Reth should appear there with the quest dialogue ready.
  4. Return to your housing plot and speak again with Reth.

Upon speaking with Reth after reaching Romance level 3

Reth
Hey, sweet tooth/fancy pants! Nice place you got here. Very good for hiding illicit merchandise.
Boy am I glad to see you right now. Can I just stand here and look at you for a while? It'll make me feel better.
Player
Look your fill.
Reth
You always know exactly what I need, sweet tooth/fancy pants. This is why you're my favorite person.
Whew. Okay, crisis averted.

Player
Is something wrong?
Reth
Can't talk about it right now. Still looking.
Yup, that's the face of my favorite person right there. Good to see it's still on.
So, guess who has two thumbs and needs your help again?
Player
Oh no, what happened?
Reth
Well, I guess Ashura didn't believe my totally convincing lie last time. And after I cooked a whole dinner for him...

Reth

He's been keeping a closer eye on me now. Constantly checking up on me.
It's been impossible to get my work done, and the shipments are starting to suffer.
Think I'm gonna need to temporarily change bases for a bit.

I'll help you move the merchandise.

Reth
Sure, that would be the smart, responsible thing to do. Unfortunately, I already did the stupid, Reth thing to do.
I may have uh... already hidden all the merchandise. I wouldn't want to waste all of that hard work, y'know?
Guess I'll have to just keep lying through my teeth. Even if it is giving me panic attacks!
Anyways, I appreciate you spending the time to chat. You're a good person, (Player). Probably too good a person for me. I'll see you later, okay?

Reth
Riiiight, right. I guess the box fairy came and poofed them back here.

Reth
Mad? No. Confused? Yes.
I thought we'd agreed we were going to hide everything from Ashura and close our eyes until the problems went away?
Kinda hard to do that when the problem is staring me in the face!
Player
It's time to stop lying.
Reth
I have no idea what will happen to me if I stop lying! I might literally die!

Player
You can trust Ashura.
Reth
I know... I know! It's not Ashura I'm worried about.

Player
I didn't agree to anything.
Reth
We had an unspoken agreement! I'm pretty sure I winked!
Well, there's no use crying over spilled milk, I guess. Ashura'll be here any minute, and I'm stuck red-handed. No thanks to you.
Funny... I kind of feel relieved about it. Terrified, and relieved.
It didn't exactly feel good, sneaking around under his nose.

Well. That went... surprisingly well. Maybe this honesty thing isn't the worst policy.
I came clean, just like you told me to. Told him about the work with the Grimalkins. Tish's illness. All of it.
By the end, I guess he was kinda speechless. But he just clapped me on the shoulder and told me he was proud of me for owning up to it.
Said he'd help in any way he could. And to keep using the storeroom, if that's what I needed.
Weirdest conversation I've ever had in my life.
Player
Is it weird to care about you?
Reth
Honestly... yeah. I'm not exactly the easiest person to care about. You and Ashura are proof of that.
Though different flavors... I hope.

Player
I could make it weirder.
Reth
Sounds like a challenge.

Player
So it worked out!
Reth
Against all reason... yeah. Yeah, it did work out.
It took guts, to do what you did. I was being a real idiot, and you just... didn't budge.
You dragged me kicking and screaming to having a healthy conversation about my feelings.
I've never had anyone care about me that much. Never had anyone think I could be better than I am.

I, uh. Wanted to give you something, actually. Was gonna do it after this thing with Ashura blew over, but... doesn't really make sense to wait, does it?

So, I may or may not have been practicing my chocolate making skills, and I may or may not have gone a little overboard. Then I thought, hey, you know who might like way too much chocolate?
