About
Hi! 👋 In the Palia community I'm generally known as Ivy. I'm a 32 year old woman with Autism and ADD, from this small rainy country called The Netherlands. I started playing Palia shortly after the Open Beta release, but didn't actively play until November 2023. I also love creating personal spreadsheets for games wayyy too much, so that is exactly what I did with Palia. 🫠
I'm currently in a sort of reintegration process as I've been unemployed for a few years due to mental health and my neurodivergence. This makes for a lot of spare time, which means I spend a lot of that spare time helping out here. During this reintegration process I learned the basics of HTML back in October 2023, which was the first time I ever learned anything related to coding. I registered an account to the Wiki in December 2023, although I didn't feel very confident in my abilities and knowledge. I started with changing typos and editing small things here and there, such as required ingredients for a cooking recipe or the value of an item. It wasn't until somewhere halfway through January 2024 (I think?) that I started to get the hang of wiki editing, which is also when I discovered that I absolutely love doing it. Sometimes I spend a bit too much time wiki editing, but I blame my hyperfocus.🤭 It was from this time that I feel like I learned so much every week. That's when I started to get more confidence to do bigger tasks like create new pages, and help with projects. My next goals are learning about DPL and how to create templates.

Projects
- Gift Testing - The first project I started contributing to. Gift testing simply means gifting items to Villagers, with help of the Gift Testing spreadsheet (not made by me), which contains missing info on the Wiki, to see if the Villager accepts it when it's not their Weekly Want. Whether they accept it or not will be added to the Gifting section of the item page (example: Kimchi Fried Rice). This also means that when a new item is added to the game after an update, and it can be gifted, I start gathering enough of it and run around to throw it at the poor Villagers to see what they'll say.
- Dialogue Pages - At first I simply added more dialogues to the pages, mostly responses to gifts since I was already getting a lot of that during gift testing. While adding dialogues, I found myself struggling to find the correct sections to add specific dialogues to. The Gifting Dialogue section was the first bit I set up a new format for, which I hoped would make both reading and editing the section easier. After expanding to other dialogue types, I started thinking of a new format for the whole Dialogue page. I suggested these changes, got the green light to set up what I had in mind and created the following sandboxes:
Altica did some tweaking and turned everything into a neat template to make overhauling the Dialogue page for every Villager easier and faster, which is: {{DialogueTabs}}. And that's how the current (current = as of 9 April 2024) dialogue format came to be! An example of this can be viewed here: Ashura/Dialogue
- Translations - I've always loved translating, so once translating for Dutch was made available, I hopped right in and that's also what I've been doing, along with a small team of other Dutch translators.
