Friendship is a game mechanic in Palia between The Player and Villagers.

Mechanics

Friendship can be raised through either conversing with a Villager once per Palian day, gifting them items, and completing quests.

Raising your Friendship level will typically result in a new Friendship quest which can be completed to earn rewards. Reaching Friendship Level 3 with a Villager will prompt them to gift you the key to their room, either in-person or through the mail. Once the Player possesses the key, they can enter the locked room at any time, even when the Villager is shown as sleeping.

Friendship Level 3 also unlocks additional voice lines and conversations with the villager.

Additionally, if the villager is eligible to be romanced, and you have reached a required friendship level, gifting them a Box of Chocolates Box of Chocolates or a Heartdrop Lily Heartdrop Lily will unlock their Romance questline.

The Relationships Tab in the Player Menu

Relationships tab icon in the Player Menu
  • When viewing the Relationship tab, a Villager with a blue chat bubble near their portrait represents that they have not yet been spoken to during that in-game day.
  • The bar located just under the Villager's name shows the Player's friendship level with them, as well as the rewards earned for each level.
  • In the top right corner, you can see if you have gifted the villager that day, and what their weekly wants are if you have discovered them through Villager conversations.
  • If the Villager has a secondary bar under the friendship bar, it represents the player's Romance level with them, as well as the rewards earned for each romance level.
  • When romancing a Villager, you can click the cogwheel just below their picture to break up if wanted.
