A Message from the Studio

Hi, everyone!

Here at the studio, we're very committed to becoming a multi-region, multi-platform game as we prepare Palia to be on the Switch for this holiday season. Check out our announcement trailer during the Nintendo Direct and make sure to wishlist the game if you haven’t already!

Supporting EU servers and being on the Epic Games Store is a major milestone for us, and we hope these steps bring us one step closer to being a game everyone across the world can enjoy.

Likewise, you can also expect some pretty hearty patches for 0.172 and 0.173 — enough to rival Reth’s soup, one might say! We’ve also got a Dev Update blog coming to you very soon with more details of the exciting things we’ve been working on. (Hint: ✨💬🪴🧗👻.)

We're really excited for the future of Palia. And for any new folks joining us here on out, welcome home! 🤗

FAQs

(EU Servers) How will I know what servers I am on?

The server you are currently on will be displayed on the top left corner of the screen when pressing . You can check there!

(EU Servers) How does the game determine what server I am placed on?

We have an automatic matchmaking system that will determine the best region to place you in each time you log into the game. It will always attempt to select the region in which you will experience the least latency, which should generally be your local region.

You can, however, still play with your friends across regions anytime you wish. You can party up or invite them to your server, which will override the default matchmaking settings.

(EU Servers) Will I still be able to play with my friends even if we are not from the same region?

Allowing players to connect and play together from all across the world is a big goal of ours. You are absolutely welcome to play with friends regardless of region, and our automatic matchmaker system will accommodate for this accordingly to best keep everyone on the same server.

Social information such as your friends' online status, being able to chat with them, form parties with them, or sync to one another will be the same as it is now, and is not separated by region or servers.

With EU servers now available, are there plans to support other regions as well? Will there also be plans to support more languages in the game itself?

Yes, but we want to approach things in a way that is scalable and supports the regions we expand to in a sufficient manner. We are putting a lot of effort into improving our localization for French, Spanish, German and Italian, for example, and EU players can expect to see these updates soon.

Palia is currently in Beta. Will there still be updates even after it goes out Beta?

One thing we are committed to is servicing Palia for many years to come. The updates will continue throughout Beta and beyond, and we cannot emphasize this enough. That means more content, more QoL improvements, and more bug fixes. We welcome anyone who wants to be part of this journey with open arms. 🌈

Can we expect paid cosmetics to be released every patch? Why not focus on game content or bug fixes?

Yes, as mentioned in a previous FAQ, this is currently our main income source for the game. Something we’d like to clarify is that the team that is working on cosmetics are not the same folks that work on other features of the game, and all the various work that happens for the game is concurrent. We have many teams that make up our studio, and it’s a large effort to bring you Palia! Of course, with this being our first game, we definitely have a lot of room to bloom: learn and grow - and that's actually one of the pillars here at S6, by the way! 🌼

Bug Fixes

  • Fireplaces Fireplaces, Doorways Doorways, and Patios Patios now accurately cost 0 towards your building add-ons, and can now be added to housing plots that have reached the building limit cap.
  • The Koi Pond no longer looks like it’s in the process of transitioning dimensions.
  • Picking up housing from the top-down menu while at max storage no longer destroys any fish/bug placed as decor.
  • There are no longer missing textures on the Disciple Set.
  • The cursor no longer disappears after interacting with certain menus.
  • Players no longer lose control of the camera after interacting with shop menus.
  • Grass no longer grows through your plot after switching housing plots.
  • VFX and audio for the start and finish line of the Obstacle Course will now work as expected.

Top Known Issues

Disclaimer: These are only a select few issues of many we’re aware of! For troubleshooting on common technical issues, please visit our Player Support page.

⚠️ There are ongoing issues with Achievements, including darkened silhouettes for previously caught critters and rewards not being granted.

  • We definitely know how frustrating this is, and are working hard to get this complicated and interconnected issue solved as soon as possible. Thank you all for your patience as we investigate! 🙏

⚠️ In some cases, players are experiencing their rooms merging or overlapping, and are unable to move them.

  • We will be releasing a fix for this in the next few updates. In the meantime, please proceed with caution as you place your room add-ons.

⚠️ When completing the final puzzle in the Fire Temple, players might become stuck.

  • Relogging should resolve this issue, and you will be able to speak to Hassian to complete the quest.

⚠️ Interacting with the Wardrobe while your character is stuck in the “missing textures & T-posing” appearance will cause your character to reset/change appearances permanently.

  • At the moment, the workaround for the "T-posing" issue is to simply relog into the game.
  • Please avoid interacting with the wardrobe, otherwise your character may change with no way to adjust certain settings at this time.

Finally: We know localization is not up to our quality bar, and are taking active steps to improve the experience in many languages. This is an ongoing process, and we're sorry that we haven't lived up to your expectations or our promise to you, our players.

Expanded Known Issues List

Epic Games Store

  • Occasionally, when installing from EGS, a warning appears that the Palia executable cannot be found.
    • Closing it and re-launching from EGS fixes this issue. This happens particularly after Palia has been uninstalled at least once.
  • If a player installs through EGS and then uninstalls through EGS, Palia will still be listed in their Windows program list.
    • It’s not actually there or taking up room, but the way the uninstall process works leaves behind a registry key that makes Windows think it's still installed.
  • Similarly, if players install through EGS and then uninstall through Windows Add/Remove Program, EGS may think it’s still installed and give them the option to Launch it.
  • Players who close the Launcher in the middle of installing will likely - but not always - need to start over when they re-launch, instead of resuming where it was like it does for other PC users.
  • Players choose where to install from EGS when they install the game. If they open Advanced Options after, they can see where it is installing, but cannot change it.
    • This is intended, but we will make this interface more clear in the future as to why they can’t change it, or avoid the option at all.
  • The Palia logo is occasionally missing during the EGS installation process.

Around The World

  • Climbing is not always a smooth experience, especially around Pulsewater Plains and Hideaway Bluffs in Bahari Bay, and an area near Leafhopper Hills in Kilima Village. We also observe difficulty with climbing ivy.
    • There is long-term work being done to make all of climbing around Palia a better time!
  • You will find the occasional invisible barrier, or are able to walk through seemingly solid objects.
  • Stray gliders can be found scattered throughout the world. Sadly, this is not a new and unusual foragable.
  • There are a collection of visual errors where items will "fade" in and out of view as you approach.
  • There are areas where you might fall through the world, or get stuck in an unexpected corner.
    • Typing /unstuck, or using the Return Home button on your map, will free you.
  • The Pavel Family site at the Rememberance Garden is currently invisible, but can still be interacted with.

Chat

  • The Whisper Chat defaults to yourself after exiting a Party.
  • Sometimes players can still send messages in Community chat after being kicked from the community.
  • There is no error message pop-up if you accidentally type an incorrect prompt in chat (for example, "/w" instead of "w/" to whisper).
  • All chat channels are toggled "on" by default in the Lobby.

Cooking

  • Players will sometimes freeze when cooking.
    • You can workaround this by opening and closing the menu.

Crafting

  • Sometimes, when you place a crop in a Preserves Jar Preserves Jar, it does not go into the intended Jar. It instead is placed in the Preserves Jar adjacent to the one you placed it in.

Fishing

  • When fishing near Einar Profile.png Einar, players will have to cast out very far to avoid the dock despite the fishing indicator being blue.

Friends, Parties, & Communities

  • Sometimes, Friend Requests do not appear in the social panel.
  • Players suddenly exiting the game (using Alt+F4 or crashing, for example), may still appear active and in a party despite no longer being online.
  • When a player blocks another player, the blocker is not removed from the blockee’s Social Panel Server section.
  • Friend requests that have been denied will reappear upon relog.
  • When in the Lobby screen, the key and shortcuts to access the social panel does not bring up the settings menu or toggle the state of the social panel.
  • Player's list of "Offline" friends is not minimized or collapsed by default.
  • When in the Lobby screen, the Friend Request notification does not appear when receiving a friend request.
  • Players are allowed to send Community invitations, even if their Community is full. Remaining invites will also not rescind when a Community reaches capacity.
  • Your Party does not disband when there is one Party Member left after the Party Leader, or Member, leaves the game.
  • Players do not receive a chat notification message when someone joins a party.
  • Players do not receive a chat notification message when another player joins their neighborhood.
  • Players who are in the same community OR in the same server, who send each other friend requests, may see location information (such as where one player is currently located in the world) in the social panel.
  • Party invitations do not expire when a Party becomes full.

Housing & Furniture

  • There is some minor clipping from the environment through the furniture, such as grass and trees.
  • When crafted, pieces from the Emberborn set are not marked with the "crafted" checkmark.
  • When crafted, pieces from the Emberborn set are not placed in the "Furniture" tab of your inventory. They can still be found in the "All" tab.
  • If players have full inventories and they have space in their storage, they receive a "Wow, your inventory is full" error pop-up when trying to pick up their house, or housing add-ons.
    • Having just one empty slot available in your inventory will allow you to move your house and housing add-ons.
  • When Housing Permissions are updated, all current visitors will receive the same notification about an individual’s permission changes.

Menus & Interface

  • The ESC key does not close the Repair Anvil as well as a few other menus. We are working on this for better consistency.
  • When selecting an option in the Settings menu, the pulldown menu does not show "highlights" for your selection unless you are hovering right over the available text.

Performance

  • An increasing number of players are experiencing a crash when traveling between servers, with the error message "Client travel experienced failure. Please try again."
    • Some workarounds include force closing Palia from the Task Manager, or removing all your furniture from storage and placing it on an unused plot. This former suggestions is a rare fix, but can help on occasion.

Photo Mode

  • The camera function cannot be rebound from the key.
  • Party UI does not appear/disappear if a player takes a photo in-game before joining or leaving a party.

Quests & Villagers

  • The quest Quest Icon.png Prove Your Devotion is not accurately tracking the amount of Tree Seeds collected.
  • Some items are invisible when placed in your home, like Einar's Shiny Pebble Einar's Shiny Pebble and Jina's flowers Jina's flowers.
  • The quest Quest Icon.png Wares in Low Places requires you to talk to Zeki in the Underground to complete the quest. You may see progress reset when you leave, so be sure to talk to Zeki before you go!
  • In Private spaces, NPCs are not standing on their expected target points, which could result in you catching Zeki Profile.png Zeki jumping on his bed.
  • When completing the quest Quest Icon.png Ancient Battery, there is no text in the pop-up. There are no further steps you need to take!
  • Ashura Profile.png Ashura is teleporting from his morning workout routine straight to his fishing location at 10:15am Palia Time.

Requests

  • Rescinding an expired Request does not work. These Requests will expire on their own after 2 hours.
  • Requested items from other players will not appear until you've changed servers.

Visual, Audio, & Animation Bugs

  • Friends in the Social Panel appear shocked by all these Emerging Known Issues! This is not intended.
  • The Focus tutorial does not pop up to guide new players through an explanation of their Focus bar.
  • UI buttons animate correctly but do not respond when clicked on their edges.
  • A visual issue where when playing with a smaller screen size, or in windowed mode, the clothing icons in the wardrobe display covers the “continue” button.
  • Terrain and foliage pop in and out during Welcome To Palia Cinematic.
  • There are a collection of visual errors where items or environments will “pop” in and out of view as you approach.
  • There are a handful of icons that do not match their item. This also applies to accomplishments rewards, like the Bug Catching accomplishments.
  • After using the bow or smoke bomb, players can sometimes lock into the hunting pose.
  • The Honey Lure Honey Lure animation does not loop properly.
  • There are two signs showing in the Housing Plot opening cinematic.

Wardrobe & Premium Store

  • Premium Store outfit thumbnails appear slightly greyed/muted in color until players hover over them.
  • When players are transitioned to the Wardrobe, or Dressing Room Menu, they see glimpses of a black screen with UI, terrain, and an empty wardrobe menu with "No Matching Results".
    • It will return to the expected appearance shortly after.
  • Hair Dye Patterns do not display a pattern in the UI. The swatches appear as blank circles.
  • The Emote button has returned to the wardrobe! This button is not functional, and will disappear again in a future update.
  • When selecting the Pet tab, the Emotes menu appears instead. To access Pets, click Emotes, then Pets again.
