Dialogue and Mail

Upon reaching Romance Level 3 with Jel, a letter in the mail will arrive from him, written:

Dear (Player),

I went into town to deliver those canapes. Which, by the way, are almost as delicious as you are, my dear. (Don't tell, but I tried one on the way over to my sister's.) It turns out, that my eldest sister Amara's faulty planning does beyond exiling me to catering.

She's given my incredibly shy sister, Imani, the responsibility of putting together a pageant honoring my mother despite the fact that she doesn't have a theatrical bone in her body.

My avante garde sister, Nia, was put in charge of decor and picked out these awful chairs made of actual nails. She said they were supposed to make a statement about these sorts of events being "form over function."

Fara, my dear congenial sister who can't say no to anything, was put in charge of the invitations. She invited the town, including everyone who's NOT anyone.

And my youngest sister Sekai was originally supposed to do the canapes, but she refused. Meaning I wasn't supposed to do ANYTHING!

I'm such a wreck, I think I spotted an actual wrinkle on my forehead. Could you please come over here and check for me? I don't trust Tish. She's too nice.

Upon talking to Jel

Jel
So my wrinkle. How bad is it?
Player
You can barely see it.
Jel
But you can see it?

Player
Don’t worry. You can always iron it out.
Jel
If only! I would be willing to bear the pain for the sake of beauty.
Oh, Amara is going to be the death of me. This event is going to be a disaster, and mother, well, she’s going to be ashamed of us all!
How can I make Amara see reason?
As the older sibling it is my duty as a good Majiri to accept her decisions, but this…this will ruin my family name.
Player
Maybe you should try talking to Amara.
Jel
Oh, how naive you are my muse.
I can’t just talk to my sister. Well…that simply isn’t how it’s done.

Player
Come on, it’s not that serious.
Jel
Oh, how naive you are my muse.
There's nothing more serious in high society than a ruined party. The rich have so little else to worry about after all.
I mean, you should hear Kenli blabber on and on about how the ponies at Kenyatta's second birthday party were two inches too tall for him to ride. You would think someone had died...twice.
Perhaps, I could go over there and smooth things out if I had a reason to visit.
Oh, I know, I could get her a gift to celebrate the excellent job she’s doing planning the party – but by the lackluster way I tell her she’s doing a good job, she’ll know I actually mean she’s doing a terrible job.
Perhaps I could make her a brooch? If you could bring Sifuu some silver, a spiral shell, and a pearl– she can work out the rest.

Upon taking the materials to Sifuu

Player
Could you make these into a pin for Jel’s sister?
Sifuu
You say these ingredients are for a present for his sister?
I don’t mean to pry, but his sister might get the wrong idea.
A pin like this is usually given to show one’s…uh…romantic interest.
Player
I’ll be sure to warn him.
Sifuu
I would be sure to do that if I were you. Don’t want to make things awkward around the dinner table.

Player
I wonder if it’s really for Amara…
Sifuu
I was wondering the same thing. I've been noticing the way he looks at you.
Who knows? Maybe you're having me make this pin for you.

Player
So he’s into his sister?
Sifuu
Ha ha! Good one, but I doubt that. Jel's not the most aware of social cues.
It's probably some sort of misunderstanding. Or...perhaps[sic] the pin was meant for someone else.
Sifuu
Here you go, one expertly crafted pin. Whatever it’s for, I have to say the craftsmanship is exceptional.

Upon bringing the brooch to Jel

Player
Sifuu said not to give your sister this.
Jel
Oh dear, did she tell you about the Palian tradition of giving someone your pin?
Player
Yes
Jel
I should have warned Sifuu so she didn't spoil it for you.
I wanted to be the one to tell you that I want you to have a part of me that you can carry with you.

Player
No?
Jel
I should have warned Sifuu so she didn't spoil it for you.
I wanted to be the one to tell you that I want you to have a part of me that you can carry with you.

Player
Is it for me?
Jel
I should have warned Sifuu so she didn’t spoil it for you.
I wanted to be the one to tell you that I want you to have a part of me that you can carry with you.
Jel
I made my pin out of the nacre of a green pearl. It represents me since I may not be the bright white pearl everyone thinks they’re looking for, but I can shine just as brightly.
And the shells represent you…because I first started to see what a wonderful person you are when you brought me those shells for my buttons.
I know it was just a little thing, but that small act of kindness showed me how thoughtful you are, and that’s a rarer quality than you think.
When I first made this pin as a boy, I vividly pictured the face of the person I might give it to.
…Needless to say, I didn’t exactly picture the person I intend to give this to now.
But that’s the thing about life, isn’t it? It always catches us by surprise.
I hope this gift is a pleasant one.
Player
It is.
Jel
You have no idea how...effervescent my heart feels hearing you say those words.
Goodnight, my muse. My dreams will be filled with nothing but your face.

Player
I’ll have to think on how I feel.
Jel
Very well. I suppose feelings shouldn't be rushed.
But don't take too long deciding. I fear I[sic] my creative pursuits may languish while I'm kept in suspense.

Player
So, what are you going to do about your sister?
Jel
Amara’s mind sadly cannot be changed. She’s not stupid enough to make the kind of mistakes I see her making.
Which must mean…she’s doing all of this on purpose. To embarrass me and my other sisters.
I’m not sure what to do about it, but I choose not to dwell on life’s little hurdles at this moment. Not when I can focus on you.
