We love being surprised by the delightful new ways our community has managed to turn the decoration they collect into new and interesting configurations, so we wanted to give players even more options! Keep your eyes on future patches as we look to add more styles for even more options.

The Building Blocks system is a game mechanic that provides extra flexibility that existing Housing Add-ons do not quite allow. The Player can use a variety of shapes to build structures in a free-form style.

How to Obtain

Recipes for Building Blocks can be purchased at City Hall.

For more information, see Builders Furniture Set.

Mechanics

Building Blocks have a limit of 1,000 pieces (which falls under the max limit of 3,000 total decor).

Building Blocks can be placed on the ground, floors, walls and surfaces of other items that allow "tabletop" placement. Much like other decor items, building blocks can be placed by clicking (or ), after selecting the item in the inventory toolbar. They can also be picked up and put back into the inventory using the key (or on Switch). Likewise, while in Standard Grid view, building blocks can be placed either with the grid on or off. Simply use the key ( on Switch) to toggle between the two options.

Other decor items, excluding outdoor only items, can be placed on building blocks. In the case of building block floor items that are placed on the ground, outdoor only decor can be placed on the ground where the floor item is located, giving it the appearance of being placed on top of the floor item.

For more information, see Customization.

Building Blocks have two unique features that set them apart from most other decor items: Snap Points and Group Selection.

Snap Points

Snap Points are active on building blocks when the player utilizes standard grid placement mode while decorating on the Housing Plot. This allows the player to snap one building block to another building block at specific points of contact, which facilitates quick and easy construction of free-form structures and is the recommended method of placement for building blocks. If needed or wanted, the player can toggle off the grid placement mode to disable the snap points.

Group Selection

Group Selection is the ability to move a group of connected building blocks as a single unit. This is done by selecting a building block that has other building blocks attached to it and using plus to move and place the selected building block, and all attached building blocks, at the same time. As mentioned earlier, outdoor only items cannot be attached to building blocks. This means that while an outdoor only item can be placed on the ground where a building block floor item is located, if the floor item is later moved (either by itself or as part of a group), the outdoor only item will not move with it.
