Desperate Times is a Friendship Quest given by Tamala upon reaching Friendship Level 4: Magic Mentor.

Description

Tamala sent you a letter saying she needs your help. Seems out of character. You should probably follow up.

Part 2

Tamala feels bad that she tested her beauty cream of unsuspecting victims...er, villagers. Help her deliver apology bouquets to the villagers she gave beauty samples to. There's clearly no ulterior motive here, right?

Dialogue and Mail

Introduction

Letter from Tamala

Dear (Player),
I realize I haven't been treating you, or anyone really, the best. And you...like me...deserve only the best. Would you mind coming to meet lil' old me all the way out in Bahari? I want to find a way to make up for what I've done. I promise I'll make it worth your while.

Upon speaking to Tamala

Missing dialogue for Fire response on last choice.
Player
I got your letter.
Tamala
You responded to my summons! What a pleasant, yet not surprising outcome!
Player
What do you want?

Player
This had better be good.
Tamala
Aren't we prickly today. What's got your undergarments in a twist?
Player
You experimented on other villagers!
Tamala

Player
It's laundry day...
Tamala
I can tell you're using humor to avoid confronting the real problem.
You're still mad at me for using the villagers as a testing ground.
I will admit, I shouldn't have done that, and I wouldn't have normally.
I'm a woman of progress, but that doesn't mean I shun ethics.
However, you have to understand, I'm desperate.
Player
Desperate how?
Tamala

Player
Stop trying to manipulate me!
Tamala
I'm not, darling! I promise, this time, I'm serious. Deathly serious, I'm afraid.
I'm...sick, terribly sick.
I made some mistakes in my youth, and well... they've come back to haunt me.
Years ago, I messed with magic that was sadly beyond my control.
It resulted in a terrible condition that I carry with me to this day.
The creams I gave to the villagers each contained an element that could have been the cure.
Luckily, the side effects were mild...so I decided to try them on myself.
Player
What kind of condition is it?
Tamala
Sadly, I can't tell you that. If I did, you'd never look at me the same way again.

Player
I'm sorry this happened to you.
Tamala
(missing)

Player
Seems like you brought it on yourself.
Tamala
You're right. I did. I really did...

Player
You could have killed someone!
Tamala
But the important thing to remember is that I didn't!
And as I said at the beginning of this little tete-a-tete, I am so very apologetic.
In fact, I was wondering if you'd deliver these apology bouquets to everyone, as a sign of my deep remorse.

Progression

Upon speaking to the villagers.

Player
Tamala sent this as an apology.
Jel
If Tamala thinks flowers are enough to make me forget that horrible night of itchiness, she has another thing coming.
That alchemist has made an enemy of me, and she will live to rue the day she gave me that cream!
That being said, the flowers are lovely, and I will display them in my shop.
Here. Do take this as a token of my gratitude.

Player
Tamala sent this as an apology.
Eshe
This arrangement is...acceptable recompense.
Though I'm shocked you have the gall to approach me after last time.
Hmph. Well, since you have the decency to apologize in person to me, I suppose you can take this in return.

Player
Tamala sent this as an apology.
Zeki
How many times do I gotta tell you, pal. There's no need to apologize for a great prank!
And if you think flowers are gonna get me to stop plottin' my revenge, well you've got another thing comin'.
The game is, how do you say it... already afoot. Or in my case, apaw.
Here, take this. Consider it a little tip for inspiring me to cook up some fun plans.

Conclusion

Upon speaking to Tamala after giving the villagers the flowers.

Player
I delivered the flowers.
Tamala
Thank you so much! Was everyone bowled over by my humility?
Player
They all accepted them.
Tamala

Player
If by bowled over, you mean still mad, then yes.
Tamala
Well, I suppose I can't expect everyone to appreciate my benevolence.
Here, why don't you take this? As a reward for all your hard work.
