–Leta's Memorial in the Remembrance Garden

Leta is the late wife of Hodari, he refers to her regularly, and describes her as having red hair as fiery as her temper, a knack for invention, and a passion for explosives.

The details of Leta's death, and the loss of Najuma's leg, are revealed during the quest Survivor's Guilt.

Biography

Leta Pavel was Hodari's wife, who worked in the mines with him and was an avid inventor, a passion she passed on to their daughter, Najuma. At some point she worked with Zeki and they considered each other friends. She passed through the veil when Najuma was five years old.

Death

After a fight, five-year-old Najuma ran away in the middle of the night into the Northern Mineshaft. Leta and Hodari spent several hours looking for her, but just when Leta found her, the supports around them gave way and caused a catastrophic cave-in. Leta attempted to throw her child clear of the falling rocks and was almost successful, but Najuma's leg was crushed beneath a boulder. Hodari arrived moments later and was able to free Najuma, but was unable to reach Leta, whose condition was not stated. In what must have been an agonizing decision, Hodari presumably took Najuma to obtain emergency medical care and summon the Kilima villagers for assistance. They worked throughout the night to clear the shaft, but by the time they reached Leta she had succumbed to suffocation due to the buildup of toxic gas.

As a result of the accident, the Northern Mineshaft was closed and locked up by order of the Mayor, and Hodari has avoided the area ever since.

After the accident, Najuma and I both shut down for a while. Takes time, to get back to being a person after somethin' like that.

Trivia

  • Unlike with Sabine, there are currently no photos or paintings of Leta in the Pavel home. Hodari mentions that he carries a picture of the family (himself, Leta, and Najuma) with him when he is mining, and that Leta's family has a picture of her hanging in their Bahari home.
