Dialogue and Mail

Upon receiving Letter from the player's Shepp (or Jina)

Missing Letters from Chayne, Einar, Kenyatta, Tamala, Tish. Unsure if Jina's letter is different as a Shepp

Hey (Player),
Have you felt that chill in the air? Seen the snow on the ground? That means it's almost my favorite time of the year. Winterlights!

I know you're totally brand new to the world so you don't know what Winterlights is. Anyway, it's a celebration where we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. Throughout the years, it transformed into a fun tradition where we eat food and share stories with the ones we love. Since I saw you emerge, I thought it would be good to teach you what the tradition is all about.

I sent you a candle. You can light it and swap stories with someone you care about or even those you want to get to know better.

PS - Hekla told me that people used to bring a tree inside and decorate it for a holiday around this time called Frostide. Seems a little strange to me... but I thought it might be fun to combine the traditions. So I sent you a tree. Maybe you can get decorations from the people you light candles with? Just a thought. You don't have to do it if it seems stupid.

Jina Profile.png Jina

Hello (Player),
It's been a joy to see you find a home in the village. I haven't felt this much like a proud papa since Nuroo took his first steps. It has been a great joy to be your Shepp and guide you through your journey. With that being said, I'd like to introduce you to one of my favorite traditions, Winterlights!

During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. Throughout the years, it transformed into an important celebration where we eat food and share stories with the ones we love. I have provided you with a candle, so you can share this tradition with your own kith and kin.

PS - Jina told me that humans used to bring trees into their homes and decorate them for a winter celebration called Frostide. Though I can't fathom why someone would cut down a perfectly good tree without a practical purpose... Winterlights is all about embracing the traditions of all. In this spirit, I have included a sturdy pine with your candle deliveries. Maybe you can invite others to participate as well? Who knows, some of the kids around here may get a real kick out of it?

Ashura Profile.png Ashura

Howdy Spring Bean,
Or should I call you winter bean? Is that even a thing? I don't know! The cold weather seems to be freezing up the old joke gears in my head. But that's SNOW excuse for me taking my duties as your Shepp lightly. The boys, Delaila, and I were sitting down for our first night of Winterlights and I realized we'd forgotten to include an important member of the family...YOU! Heck, I ain't even explained what Winterlights is!

During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. Winterlights means something a little different to everybody. Some people pray to Maji for a better crop and food to make it through the winter. Other people just use it as an excuse to enjoy each others company and enjoy good food. Whatever the reason for the season, I want you to be a part of it. So I gave you a candle to light with people you care about. Isn't that nifty?

PS - Jina also told me I should include a tree for you to decorate since that's a human Winterlights tradition. When I saw an opportunity to combine our holidays, I knew I WOOD take on the challenge. Anyway, a little birdie named Badruu told your friends that if you drop by with a candle, they should give you a decoration for your tree.

Badruu Profile.png Badruu

Greetings Fellow Knowledge Seeker,

While I am not particularly fond of idle revelry, as your Shepp, it is my duty to inform you of the Majiri tradition of Winterlights. My father was not much for celebration, so I usually take this time as an opportunity for quiet reflection and to spend time with my sister, but this year I have an additional family member to consider...you. Perhaps as you learn to appreciate Winterlights, I will as well. Who knows?

During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. So I share with you the recipe to make candles. Choose wisely who you share these with, for nothing is as precious as time and nothing is as tragic as time wasted.

Postscript - Jina informed me that humans liked to decorate trees this time of year for a celebration known as Frostide. I thought this was a wonderful opportunity for us both to engage in an academic exercise. How can we create a celebration that is equal parts old and new? Perhaps you can think on this as you distribute your candles.

Caleri Profile.png Caleri

Cheers (Player),
As I put me peki in the oven for the first night of Winterlights, I'm reminded of how this year I'll needa put out an extra spot on me table. Bein' your Shepp has been an honor and I don't want ya to think that my duty ends at your Acceptance Ceremony. It is my job as your Shepp to teach you about our traditions. And one of our most dear traditions is coming upon us now.

During Winterlight, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for an new spring during the darkest time of the year. I'm sharing me favorite candle recipe so you can share your light with those you hold dear. Feel free to drop on by for dinner anytime since you're on of those folks for me.

PS - Jina told me that humans often decorated a tree this time of year for a festival they called Frostide. Can you imagine? The other villagers decided to get together since we thought it would be fun to incorporate your traditions with ours. When you share your light with your friends, expect a little somethin' for yourself in return.

Delaila Profile.png Delaila

To My Favorite Paranormal Pal,
As I wish upon my Winterlights for a visit from the legendary Snowy Skitterer, I was reminded that as a Shepp it is my duty to share our traditions to you.

Most people would have you believe that during Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. I am one of the few who knows that the TRUE reason is to welcome in the Snowy Skitterer. After all, if you see one during winter, it means you'll have a wonderful spring. Regardless of how you wish to celebrate, you'll need a candle to do so. I included the recipe most likely to attract the lucky beast. You don't want to find out what happens if you don't put the lights out...those who didn't are no longer around.

PS - Jina told me that humans often decorated a tree this time of year for a festival they called Frostide. Since skitterers love trees, I thought maybe you could try putting a candle or two on yours? Or maybe other decorations are more traditional? Ask around and I'm sure you can find a few people who can help.

(Player),
Winter is upon us, which means it is time to celebrate Winterlights. As your Shepp it is my duty to inform you of our traditions. During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year.

Personally, I think winter is a time of fresh starts and there is nothing to fear. Still, I do have fond childhood memories of lighting candles with mother and mama, swapping stories, and eating by the fire. Since you are now part of my family, I want to share those traditions with you. I have included a recipe for a Winterlights candle. Please share it with those whose presence you value.

PS - I have recently learned from Jina that humans used to decorate a tree indoors for some peculiar reason. While I do find the tradition wasteful, my relationship with you has piqued my interest in human ways. Please take this tree and honor its sacrifice by making it a beautiful addition to your home. Of course, I have planted a new tree in its place.

Hassian Profile.png Hassian

(Player),
Najuma's been talkin' about this Winterlights for months. Can't help but wonder if a certain human's got somethin' to do with it. Ain't seen her this excited in years. Speaking of Winterlights, I figure you probably have no idea what I'm talkin' about.

It's a holiday to celebrate and light up the darkest time of the year. During Winterlights, we ignite candles with our family and loved ones to symbolize hope for a new spring. Since you're part of that family now, seems I should include you this year too. Included a Winterlights candle with this message. All you gotta do bring[sic] it around your friends and family so they can light them. (And make sure Najuma's part of that group, will you?)

PS - Jina mentioned that humans used to chop down a tree and decorate it indoors for their Winterlights, or whatever they called it back then. I gotta admit I'm havin' a little trouble figuring out why they'd go and do a thing like that, but Winterlights is the time for comin' together, so we might as well combine these traditions too. So I sent you a tree. Decorate it however y'want- and maybe ask folks while you're lighting your candles what they think too. Might have some extra decorations you can put on it, if you're feeling like it.

Hodari Profile.png Hodari

(Player), I've been so busy sitting in a dark room with two hundred candles all around me thinking about all my failures in the past year, that I forgot my duty as a Shepp to inform you of our cherished holiday traditions!

During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. We also eat, and drink, and swap stories of failures and triumphs. In my family, my sisters and I would create a full scale dramatic production reenacting our greatest accomplishments! Regardless of how you decide to celebrate, I thought it best to give you this candle to help you light up your own little circle of the world.

PS - I have recently learned from Jina that humans used to decorate a tree indoors for a festival they called Frostide. I have to admit that I am interested in this tradition. It seems so avante garde! That's why I have included a tree with this missive. Let me know how it looks in your abode. And do ask around about decorations. I think everyone has different ideas of what will look fashionable.

Hellllooo (Player),
As I pen this letter, I fear being pelted in the face with a snowball. That must mean it's almost the most stressful...I mean joyous...time of the year. Winterlights! Among my duties to prepare for the festivities as mayor and your Shepp, the foremost among them is to inform you about our traditions. I still can't believe you picked me as your Shepp by the way. A part of me fears it must have been an accident, but anywho...

During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. Though personally my favorite part is the food and the fireside stories. I have provided you with the recipe to make candles to share with those you love (or are obligated by social pressures to pretend you love), so you can share in the fun.

PS - (Information needed - rest missing about tree)

Kenli Profile.png Kenli

Hi (Player),
I was having a killer snowball fight with Auni, and I smelled my mom's Winterlights peki roasting in the oven. I suddenly had a nagging feeling I was forgetting something. At first I thought it was just my normal sense of impending doom, but then I remembered...as your Shepp I'm supposed to tell you about Winterlights. Duh!

During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. We also just use it as an excuse to spend time with people we love! It's actually pretty great...anyway, I made a candle. I originally made you more, but then my mom used them...so I thought I'd just send you the recipe too. You can make as many as you want. I always say the more the merrier.

PS - Jina told me about this weird tree thing you humans did for something called Frostide. I didn't really get it, but I thought it sounded fun. So I chopped down a tree for you! If you want, you can decorate them with candles or bows or...whatever other people have around. Maybe if you light candles with people, they'll give you stuff to hang on your tree? I don't know...

Nai'o Profile.png Nai'o

Hi (Player),
You know I'm not normally big on Majiri tradition, but we've got one coming up that involves food, so you know I'm all in. It's called...wait for it...or don't wait, just read ahead...Winterlights! During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. Tish and I usually just light a candle and make some soup, but I thought since we have a brand new family member, we might want to party a little heartier this year.

Here's a candle. You can light it with whoever you want, and who knows, they might give you something in return. :)

PS - Jina told me humans used to bring a live tree into the house and cover it with candles for a festival they called Frostide. Seems like a fire hazard, but you guys had magic right? Anyway I included one with the recipe. Just...don't burn your house down. I'd miss you too much.

Reth Profile.png Reth

Hey there (Player),
I bet you've noticed that the winds are getting colder and the nights are getting longer. Back when Taylin was here, we'd go and hunt up the biggest shadvaraak we could find and roast it over a spit. These days, Hassian's not into celebrating much, but I was hopin' you and me might be able to change that...

During Winterlights, we light candles with those we care about to symbolize hope for a new spring during the darkest time of the year. I gave you a candle. You can light it with whoever you want, but maybe you would consider giving one to Hassian?

PS - Jina had this wacky idea of also sending you a tree for a festival they called Frostide. Apparently humans used to put these things in their house and decorate them if you can believe it. The idea of draggin' a tree inside sure gave me a chuckle, but if you want to put it up, I'm sure the folks around here would be willing to help you deck it out.

Want to light a candle with me?

I am happy to see you wish to include me in your holiday celebration. I haven't had anyone to light a candle with this time of year since my boy left for the Capital.
I hardly have anything else to hope for next year. This is all I wanted...

Oh my gosh! A Winterlights candle. Let me see...next year I want to win the Bug Scout championship, join the Order, and get a plumepuppy. Not necessarily in that order!
Also, I heard about your tree thing. It sounds super cool. Here's a decoration for it. I made it myself!

Wowee! I knew you lit up this village, (Player)! I just didn't know it was literal. Let me think... for this next year I hope for a good harvest and for Delaila and the boys to be happy.
Don't leave so fast! I got you a little somethin' too. Hopefully this will raise your spirits as mush as lighting that candle did mine.

I never was a fan of candles. They are too dangerous for the books. So I guess I'll just have to hope this little stunt of yours does not burn down the library.
For next spring, I hope what I hope every season, to learn something new. Afterall[sic], that is the best way to measure a life. In knowledge earned.
Also, just so you don't think I'm a curmudgeon who doesn't honor the spirit of the holiday, I've got you this. Hopefully it shan't risk burning any of your precious volumes.

Of course, I'll light a candle with you! I hope that the Dragon brings you and yours a joyous Winterlights!

Seeing you with this candle warms more than just my hearth, it also warms me heart.
Hopefully this little trinket will help warm up your home as well.

I see you have brought me a wax stick. I believe it is customary to express one's desires for the following annual cycle while lighting such a wax stick.
Let us see... I desire to continue fishing!!! And for you to enjoy this beautiful adornment!

Of course I'll light a candle with you! Here's hoping the Snowy Skitterer brings fair tidings to you and yours.
And doesn't eat your soul!

I'll have you know I don't light a Winterlights candle with just anyone...
But since you were brave enough to ask, I suppose I'll let you know that my hopes for next year are simple. I pray for things to calm down in our fair village.
Lets just say in the past year I've learned why the phrase "may you live in interesting times" is a curse withheld only for the worst of enemies.
Still, I suppose some change can be welcome. Here's a gift for your tree. I wouldn't want to be rude.

I'm honored that you choose to share your light with me. As is tradition...I suppose I must tell you my hopes for next year.
Well...I suppose my greatest hope is that the people around here finally come to their senses about the chapaa.
Were you hoping for something more personal? What can I say? I'm a simple man.

...I had been imagining what this day might be like for some time.
Even with the time to deliberate I must admit that I couldn't put my feelings into adequate words.
So... I actually wrote my thoughts down. I hope you don't mind if I decline to read it out loud.

I can't say I am familiar with Winterlights as the Majiri celebrate. I hope only for the Oneness that comes from caring for Jina.
But I did get you a Frosttide adornment. Please hang it on your Frosttide tree and think of me and my Jina.

...
I've never been one for the mushy stuff, but I guess I'll give it a try.
I hope the new spring brings prosperity to the mines, and happiness to my little girl.
Oh, I almost forgot. This is for you.

...
I've never been one for the mushy stuff, but I guess I'll give it a try.
I hope the new spring brings prosperity to the mines, and happiness to my little girl.
And of course, I hope for us to continue...what we've started between us.
Oh, I almost forgot. This is for you.

Of course, I'll light a candle with you. After all, it's in season to celebrate the season!
My wishes for next year are to join my family line and to quell the never ending feeling of longing that hides beneath my bosom.

Perhaps you have some ideas of how I could accomplish that second part, hm?

You want ME to light a candle with you? Who could have pictured when I first saw you emerge that we'd be sharing this moment together.
It's a tradition when we light candles to say what we hopes for the new spring. I... well, I would have said I hoped to finally complete my thesis, but now, I guess... I just want to help the Humans. To help you.
Oh here, I almost forgot. I got something for your tree.

Oh (Player), I've been dreaming of this moment since I first gave you my pin. My greatest hope for this next year is that we continue to get closer.
Was that too cheesy? Anyway, I got you something for your tree. I hope you like it.

Oh, a Winterlights candle! I'm so excited! When Eshe gave me hers, she told me to hope in silence.
Anyway, my hope for next year is that....I lose the mayoral election.
Scandalous, I know. But it would give me more time with my plants, and Eshe does all the real governing anyway.

Don't tell anyone, because I know it's totally basic, but I love Winterlights. The food, the decorations, the stories... everything.
But my favorite thing is lighting the candle and sharing my hopes. Let's see... what.. should I share...
I think I'll keep my hopes a secret. A girl's got to keep some mystery, right?

Don't tell anyone, because I know it's totally basic, but I love Winterlights. The food, the decorations, the stories... everything.
But my favorite thing is lighting the candle and sharing my hopes. Let's see... what.. should I share...
To be honest, I'm really nervous about finding my Path. I guess I have to stop worrying about what everyone else expects, and find what I'm good at.
Look at you, making me all mushy.

Sure thing, let me get some flint!
(Nai'o lights the candle.)
I hope that doesn't burn your finger!
Wait! Does that count as sharing my hopes?

Sure thing, let me get some flint!
(Nai'o lights the candle.)
I hope that doesn't burn your finger!
Wait! Does that count as sharing my hopes?
I hope not, because I wanted to share that I hope I don't let you down and I hope I'm able to make you super happy just like you deserve
Man, that was a lot of hopes...

Really? You want to light a candle with me? Usually I just celebrate with my dad.
Let me see. What do I want to share?
Next, year I guess I just hope my dad trusts me a little more? I hope that wasn't an overshare.
I guess that was two hopes...

I was so busy making food for the Inn's holiday menu that I guess I kind of forgot to think of what to say if someone asked me to light a candle.
Well, I hope that Tish continues to thrive in the village... and I hope that people finally learn the value of a good lettuce soup.

Well, I hope that Tish continues to thrive in the village... and I hope that people finally learn the value of a good lettuce soup.
And, of course, I have hopes for how things are gonna go with you. But I don't want to say them outloud[sic]. It might jinx it.

A Winterlights candle...it's been a minute since I've seen one of these. Hassian tends to light his with Tau.
Honestly? I don't really have many hopes for the future. I just tend to take things day by day.
And today... well, I was focused on making these bad boys for the Humans of the village. I heard about your trees, and I just couldn't help myself.

In the order we don't really celebrate Winterlights or any other seasonal traditions, but I suppose I can indulge just this once.
In the next year, I hope to have discovered the truth behind why your people have re-emerged.
I know many villagers hope for more joyous, practical things, but accomplishing my mission will bring me much joy.

If you want to heat things up between us, I can think of some better ways than lighting a candle, darling.
And if you're bringing me this because you hope to learn my secrets, well...you'll just have to try a bit harder.

(TBA)

(Tau looks at the candle and you realize you have to light it for him.)
(You light it and he wags his tail in excitement. Afterwards, he nudges you a round ball.)

Oooh...a Winterlights candle! That means I get to tell tell you my hopes and dreams! Let me see... what do I want for next year?
I hope that next year I get to make more super great friends. Like you!

Lighting a candle with you is just a dream come true! My hope for next year is for our relationship to keep growing like a beautiful flower.
Speaking of beautiful things...I got this for you.

Sure, but instead of telling you my hopes and dreams, I'm gonna tell you about a special Grimalkin tradition.
During Winterlights, all the kittens hang up socks by the fire filled with toys in hopes of luring Sandy Paws, the Winterlights pirate.
Sandy Paws will come in and try to steal the goodies in the stockings, but the kittens will have prepared the room with booby traps beforehand.
The kids who succeed are able to steal toys and candies from the fat old cat... and those they can't well, they get stolen from.
I know you're not a kitten, but here's someplace to hang your socks...in case you want to entice old Sandy Paws yourself.

Now I'd better get back home. I'll let Najuma know y'said hi.
Oh, and you have a wonderful Winterlights, darlin'. I know mine's better now that I've seen you.

My muse! I feared you'd never return from your Winterlights rounds. I would have waited all day and night and withered away on the spot if you hadn't come when you did.
Now, you must tell me. How did you enjoy your first Winterlights?

Player
It was great!

I have imagined us traveling the world together, experiencing all the great and terrible things this world has to offer.
I know with you at my side I can weather any storm, and turn the awful into the incredible through our art.

Player
I'll be happy as long as we get to hang together.
Jel

Ah, before I forget and leave you empty-handed, I have brought this candelabra. It is a quaint little tradition where one lights a candle for each member of the family and displays it in their home.
There is one for me, one for you, and one for... well, I suppose you shall have to decide the last slot for yourself.

Kenli
Did I do a good job introducing you to Winterlights? Am I a good Shepp?

Player
You're great!
Kenli
(TBA)

Player
Actually, I picked you by accident.
Kenli
(TBA)

Player
You're doing your best.
Kenli
That is what I have been telling everyone. As long as you do your best, it's good enough.

Player
You don't need to worry so much.
Kenli

Jina
So...uh... how was handing out all the candles?

Player
It was fun!
Jina
Whew! I'm glad you liked it. I was so afraid you wouldn't.
So, now that I know you like it. Do you, um wanna light a candle for me?

Player
Alright, I guess.
Jina
TBA

Player
Lighting a candle with you would be nice.
Jina
Really? Oh, good! I'm glad. So... what are your hopes for next year?

Player
You sure that isn't a trick candle?
Jina
TBA

Player
I want to be rich.
Jina
TBA

Player
I want to solve the mystery of my existence.
Jina
Oh me too! That's definitely something we can work on together.

Player
I want to go travel to a new land.
Jina
TBA

Player
I just wanna chill.
Jina

Jina
I'd love to stay and chat longer, but you probably have a lot of other things to do.
Why don't you take this bigger candelabra? In case other people stop by to light candles with you.
Oh, and have a wonderful Winterlights!

Nai'o
Hey...
Sorry, I had a reason to show up, but I kinda forgot it all the moment I saw your face. Uh... hold on, I'll get it.
Oh, right! Winterlights!
This's always been my favorite time of year. And now that you're here, it's... uh, still my favorite, but better.
Is there a word for that? Favoriter? More-gooder?
Anyways, I just... wanted to see you. And ask how your Winterlights has been, so far.

Player
It's been great!
Nai'o
That's a relief. I was kinda worried you wouldn't like it. I mean, this is our first Winterlights together, and... I want you to remember it warmly.
Which you will! Because I didn't mess things up this time! So, great!

Player
Winterlights isn't my thing.
Nai'o
(TBA)

I wanted to ask you to light a candle for me. I know you went around getting everyone else to light them up, but this time is different!

Player
Lighting a candle with you would be nice.
Nai'o
Okay, good. I mean, if you'd said no I would've been fine, probably, but we don't even have to worry about that now.

Player
You sure that isn't a trick candle?
Nai'o
TBA

Here, you gotta light it and then tell me your hopes!

Player
I want to improve myself.
Nai'o
(TBA)

Player
I want to solve the mystery of my existence.
Nai'o
(TBA)

Player
I want to travel with you!
Nai'o
Really? I think I can make that happen, (Player).
Uh, as long as by travel you mean "to Bahari City for a roundball game or concert". If you didn't mean that I can still make it happen, but gimme a little more time to save up for it!

Player
I'll be happy as long as we get to hang together.
Nai'o
(TBA)

I'm really glad I got to see you again, (Player). Winterlights just wouldn't have felt complete without you.
Oh yeah! I also brought you a candelabra. Majiri usually light a candle for every member of their family and display it somewhere.
Since there's three here, I figured they could count for you, me, and Butterball.
Okay, I gotta go, I promised Auni I'd help him build a snow-chapaa today. But maybe you can stop by later and help out? Or just sip hot cocoa and watch, I'm good with either.
Have a wonderful Winterlights, (Player)! I know I will now that I got to spend time with you.

Reth
(Player), fancy pants/sweet tooth, babe. Man is it good to see your face.
The inn's been crazy busy with all this Winterlights stuff. Everyone and their plumehound suddenly wants Winterlights pekis and hot cocoa and chestnuts by the pile.
I tried to explain how soup is the actual perfect cold weather food, but apparently having a job means making the things people pay you for, and NOT wasting all those ingredients on experimental spicy chocolate soup.
So then I figured I'd come to see you instead because if there's one person who won't look at me like I'm a massive failure it's my fancy pants/sweet tooth.
At least, if you do, you wait until my back is turned.
So, how's things? Oh! How's your tree?

Player
The tree is so cool!
Reth
Right? I mean, everyone around here is so stuck on the old ways. But not you and me, (Player). We're movers and shakers.
Trees indoors? No big deal! Plant a whole forest and then deal with the inevitable death of the ecosystem, that's what I say!

Player
An indoor tree is a little weird.
Reth
Sure, it's a little weird... but no harm in trying something new, right? After all, you tried me.
I mean, I shed considerably fewer pine needles, but let's not get hung up on the deets.

Still, gotta admit, I'm a sucker for some of the old traditions. Which is why I brought a candle for YOU to light. If you wanna, I mean.

Player
Lighting a candle with you would be nice.
Reth
...Okay, whew, glad you didn't break my heart there. Not sure how I woulda taken it if you'd said no.

Player
You sure that isn't a trick candle?
Reth
I may be a scamp, scoundrel, and all around terrible person... but I wouldn't do that to you.
Some things matter enough to take seriously.
I mean, obviously not everything. But some.

So? Any new hot new hopes you wanna fill me in on? Maybe I can work my magic and help them happen.

Player
I want to improve myself.
Reth
(TBA)

Player
I want to solve the mystery of my existence.
Reth
(TBA)

Player
I want to go on an adventure with you!
Reth
Every day's an adventure with you, babe.
Now please smile and nod and pretend that wasn't the most embarrassing thing I've said today.

Player
I'll be happy as long as we get to hang together.
Reth
That's why I lo- like you so much, (Player). You just get it.
Who needs all those big lofty hopes and dreams when we've got each other, a shady underground storeroom, and a big pot of soup between us?

Aaanyways, I also brought you a present. Tish loves all this traditional stuff, so she insisted.
It's a candelabra. I guess you're supposed to light a candle for every member of your family. So, there's one for me, one for Tish, and one for you.
I'll see you later, yeah? Oh, and uh, happy Winterlights!

Zeki
So who do ya think is gonna win Winterlights this year?

Player
Me!
Zeki
That's the spirit, kid!

Player
You can't "win" Winterlights.
Zeki
TBA

Zeki
But you better wish really hard on this candle if ya want to get more candy from Sandy Paws than old Zeki.

Player
Lighting a candle with you would be nice.
Zeki
Heh. Okay, just light it here, and...

Player
You sure that isn't a trick candle?
Zeki
TBA

Okay, okay, sorry. Couldn't resist gettin' ya with the old trick candle bit.
Here, I also brought a non-rigged candle. Promise, this one won't zap ya.
Now I don't believe in all this wishing and hopin' hooey. I think if you want to make things good for yourself, ya gotta work for it.
But, uh, why don't you humor me and tell me what ya want for anyway? Since you know the holiday's all about hope in the darkness and new beginnin's and whatnot.

Player
I want to be rich.
Zeki
Good for you. You keep trying and I'm sure you'll have even old Zed wishin' he had your kinda coin.

Player
I want to solve the mystery of my existence.
Zeki
I gotta say how you appeared from that pink void and all is a real head scratcher.
Hopefully you and that new Watcher'll figure it out.

Player
I want to go travel to a new land.
Zeki
TBA

Player
I just wanna chill.
Zeki
TBA

Zeki
Well, before I go along my merry way, I have one more gift to give. A new candelabra. The upgraded three prong model.
These babies have been flyin' off the shelf -- both upstairs and downstairs. Just promise me one thing, kid.
Don't let Sandy Paws get his sandy paws on this thing, ya hear!
Oh. and you have yourself a wonderful Winterlights, (Player).

Notes

Even though the quest objective lists 24 villagers, all 25 villagers are options to complete the objective.
