Dialogue and Mail
Introduction
Upon speaking with Zeki
- Zeki
- Hey, kid. I'm glad I ran into ya. I'm trying to solve a problem with my douplifier.
- Player
- Is it triplifying?
- Zeki
- Uh, no...that's not exactly what I would call a "problem." Anywhos...
- Right now it can only douplify little teensy tinsy things like seeds and bugs. But if I'm gonna hit the cartel where it hurts, I gotta figure out howta go big.
- I might have an idea on how to make that happen, but I, uh, I need somethin' first.
- Player
- Let me guess. You need me to get it.
- Zeki
- You're smart, kid. I like that about you.
- Player
- What is it?
- Zeki
- The piece I need, well, it's uh, actually a piece of a fallin' star. It landed in Bahari a little before you folks arrived here.
- And since, you go over there a lot, I thought maybe you could pick it up for me.
- Player
- Sounds like fun.
- Zeki
- Your definition of fun is a little different than mine, but hey, to each their own!
- Player
- Why don't you get it?
- Zeki
- That thing is way up on top of a mountain! Do I look like I'm in hikin' shape to you?
- Player
- Are ya gonna pay me?
- Zeki
- Well, I always thought friendship was the best reward.
- Ah, i'm [sic] just yanking yer chain. I got something real valuable I'm willing to trade for the star. But I can't tell ya what it is yet. I don't want to ruin the surprise.
- Anyway, bring it back and we can arrange a finder's fee. I marked where ya can find it on the map.
Progression
Optional: Upon speaking to Tamala
- Player
- Do you know what happened to the falling star?
- Tamala
- I may have taken a piece or two for my potions, but the rest should still be up on the hill on top of the mine.
Optional: Upon speaking to Hassian
- Player
- Do you know what happened to the falling star?
- Hassian
- No, unlike you I don't go digging up every piece of rock I can find.
- Why don't you ask the miners? If anyone took it, I imagine it was one of them.
Upon speaking to Najuma
- Player
- Do you know what happened to the falling star?
- Najuma
- Oh, you mean the one that fell over by the mine?
- Uh, yeah. I actually saw Tish going up to get it.
- She said she needed it for her new Starfall furniture set. I didn't ask much but it sure sounded pretty.
Upon speaking to Tish
- Player
- Do you have a falling star?
- Tish
- ...I see Zeki's gotten to you too.
- When I took the star I was hoping he'd come to confront me himself. But, of course, he sends someone else to do his dirty work.
- Player
- It's not what you think...
- Tish
- Look, I'm not blaming you for trying to help Zeki. I know you think he's your friend.
- Player
- You guys need to stop this feud.
- Tish
- Look, I'm not blaming you for trying to help Zeki. I know you think he's your friend.
- Player
- How did you know it was Zeki?
- Tish
- Because, I have a singing stone in his house remember? One that you helped me put there.
- Player
- No, actually it was the Flothman.
- Tish
- Ugh, fine. Side with Zeki. I know you think he's your friend.
- But after what my brother and I have been through, I can't believe you expect me to play along.
- Player
- Zeki hates the cartel as much as you do.
- Tish
- That frankly is...Ormuu dung. There...I said it...Ormuu dung! And I can't believe you fell for it!
- Player
- I'm staying out of this.
- Tish
- Not so fast! You did something for him, so I want you to do something for me.
- Tell Zeki if he wants his precious star, he's going to have to free my brother first.
Upon returning to Zeki
- Zeki
- So did you find my falling star?
- Player
- (Explain what happened)
- Zeki
- Did you tell her that I don't have any control of Reth's debts?
- I'm tired of everyone actin' like Reth's some poor defenseless kitten. He knew what he was gettin' himself inta.
- Besides, once I get my douplifier fixed, we'll both be free.
- Player
- Why don't you tell her that? I'm sure she'd understand!
- Zeki
- Yeah, she's gonna believe the guy who put tracking runes on her brother is a victim in all this! Sure!
- Player
- Seems like so far all that's doubled is your problems.
- Zeki
- I hear ya. Maybe I just ain't the guy to take on the cartel after all....
- Anyway, thanks for trying your best, kid. I guess I'm gonna hafta talk to Tish if I want that star.
- Here's your finder's fee. It's, uh, a model of my ship, "The Golden Catfish." I built it to remind myself of better days, but after all this, lookin' at it just makes me feel worse.
Conclusion
Letter from Zeki if he is not aware about Tish's new cure
Yo Kid,
Tish is coming to confront me about that whole situation with her brother. I may have reversed the little singin' stone trick she played on me and used it ta find out she discovered a cure. And then I may have told Reth, just so he wouldn't get himself into any more trouble. I thought while she was here, it might be the prime opportunity to talk to her about the whole fallin' star situation. Come by the Underground later and help me make her see reason.
Yours truly,
Zeki

Upon speaking to Reth, Tish and Zeki
- Zeki
- Finally, the voice of reason arrives.
- I don't know how these two had a single conversation with each other before they met the likes of rational folks like us.
- Seriously, I don't know how they've lived their entire lives like this!
- All I want is one teensy tiny fallin' star to fix my machine, but they can't get over their squabble about how she didn't tell him that she found a cure, and he didn't tell her that he sold his freedom and his potential livelihood to save her life.
- I mean, jeez, get over it already. These things happen!
- Tish
- These things happen? Are you kidding me? He was hiding the truth from me for three years!
- Reth
- But that's only because I didn't want to burden you with the responsibility. I'm supposed to be the big brother. Mom and dad would have expected me to take care of you, not the other way around.
- Player
- Reth was trying to save your life, Tish!
- Tish
- That's the problem. I'm not a damsel. I don't need saving!
- This isn't about your heart being in the right place, Reth. I know you were trying to help me, and I also know what you risked to do that.
- But, I don't just want love, I want respect. That means involving me in decisions about my own life.
- Player
- Reth, you should have involved Tish. It's her life.
- Reth
- You're right. I should have. It's clear she would have found a better solution. She always does! Because she's good at everything! And I'm good at nothing. Not even being good.
- Tish
- This isn't about your heart being in the right place, Reth. I know you were trying to help me, and I also know what you risked to do that.
- But, I don't just want love, I want respect. That means involving me in decisions about my own life.
- Player
- The whole thing's solved now, who cares?
- Zeki
- That's what I'm trying to say. Let's move on and let bygones be bygones.
- Player
- (Silently grab popcorn)
- Tish
- This isn't about your heart being in the right place, Reth. I know you were trying to help me, and I also know what you risked to do that.
- But, I don't just want love, I want respect. That means involving me in decisions about my own life.
- Reth
- I kept telling myself that I kept the truth from you for you, but I think I really did it for me. I guess part of me didn't want to tell you because I wanted to be a hero. You know?
- Tish
- You're already a hero. I've always looked up to you. Some of my best memories are just laughing with you, mom, and dad while we ate a meal you cooked. (Player) and I are lucky to have you as part of our lives.
- Player
- Speak for yourself, Tish.
- Reth
- You're right, (Player). I really screwed up, but hopefully I can show how sorry I am by doing better in the future.
- Player
- You're lucky she's taking it this well.
- Reth
- You're right, (Player). I really screwed up, but hopefully I can show how sorry I am by doing better in the future.
- Player
- I love you just the way you are.
- Reth
- Oh, guys...all this positive affirmation is turning me magenta.
- Player
- It's the everyday things that count.
- Reth
- Oh, guys...all this positive affirmation is turning me magenta.
- Player
- I don't know what I'd do without you.
- Reth
- Oh, guys...all this positive affirmation is turning me magenta.
- Player
- Yeah! You're a hero no matter what!
- Reth
- (TBA)
- Zeki
- So...now that we've got that out of the way, and we're all friends. What about that fallin' star, eh?
- Tish
- Not so fast. I forgave Reth for keeping his cartel activities from me. I didn't forgive you for roping him in.
- Zeki
- I didn't rope him in. He SIGNED UP. And unlike me, he was a grown man when he made that choice -- unlike most Grimalkins.
- The only "choice" we get after we're kicked out of the house as kittens is sign up or starve on the street. I'm the one trying to change all that.
- Come on, kid. Back me up here.
- Player
- Zeki needs the star to take down the cartel.
- Tish
- So he says, but how do I know that's true?
- Player
- Zeki did pay off Reth's debt.
- Tish
- True, and I usually do like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but how do I know that's not part of some elaborate scheme?!
- Zeki
- I'm not askin' you to take this on faith. I know you wasn't born yesterday. No offense, (Player). I got proof of how the douplifier works.
- Reth
- So what? Even if your machine really doubles things, how's that gonna take down the cartel?
- Zeki
- Think about it, Reth. Use that tiny little brain of yours. The cartel don't make most of its money offa magic. It makes it offa exclusive goods. Scarcity.
- What happens if everybody can take a one of a kind masterpiece and turn it inta two like it ain't nothin'?
- Reth
- ...the scarcity goes away.
- Zeki
- And the price of exclusive stuffs goes down.
- Tish
- If the cartel loses money, it means they lose power.....
- Zeki
- Now, you're pickin' up what I'm puttin' down, sister!
- Tish
- Okay, I'm in. I'll help you.
- Reth
- Me too.
- Zeki
- Whoah! Whoah! I get how sis is gonna help. She's got the star. But what are you gonna do, pretty boy, throw soup at Zed?
- Reth
- What I do best...distribution. Think about it. I know every secret drop spot from here to the Umbraan mountains. You're gonna need that kind of knowledge if you want to keep your actions from the Underground.
- Tish
- And your business is gonna need a legitimate face if you want to sell to the Majiri.
- Zeki
- And I suppose it don't hurt if that face is pretty.
- Reth
- Whoo hoo! Finally, my striking good looks give me an advantage.
- Zeki
- Now all you gotta do is get a hair cut.
- Reth
- Never.
- Tish
- Or maybe Jel could give you a makeover!
- Reth
- ...I'll think about the haircut.
- Player
- So you're all working together now?
- Zeki
- Looks that way, kid.
- Player
- So are you guys, like, good?
- Zeki
- Looks that way, kid.
- Reth
- And we have you to thank for it, (Player).
- Tish
- Yeah, thanks for helping us get out of our own heads and finally talk to each other. Who knows? You might have just changed the future of Palia.
- Reth
- And if not, you at least changed our future.
