Hodari and his daughter Najuma live in Bahari Bay, where he works as a miner in the Pavel Mines and also serves as the local representative of the Mining Guild. Like Hassian, he makes the journey into Kilima Village daily, and additionally, an evening journey to the Maji Market during the event.

Hodari comes from a large family of miners in an unspecified distant town, but he moved to Bahari Bay fifteen years ago. His family thinks he's strange for moving away on his own. While he grew up working with his many siblings, he has worked alone ever since the death of his wife and Najuma's mother, Leta. He describes her as having had the same "fiery red hair" and temper as Najuma, and she was also an inventor with a love of explosives. She was killed as a result of a cave-in in a mine shaft in Northern Bahari Bay.

Ever since Leta's death, Hodari has become increasingly overprotective of Najuma, going so far as to forbid her from entering the mines, which causes a great deal of conflict between them. He is also a staunch skeptic and is admittedly extremely stubborn, so he does not believe Najuma's theory that the mines are haunted and even accused her of stealing dynamite since only the two of them had access to the key, though he concedes he was wrong when the player finds the dynamite in the locked mineshaft where Leta was killed.

Although Hodari does not believe in ghosts, he admits he does sometimes see inexplicable things in the mines, and often complains about items disappearing from the house or the lighting in the mines failing, suggesting that Najuma is correct in theorizing that something is inhabiting the area other than the Pavels.

Hailing from a mining family and presumably having mined since he was young, Hodari has a bad back and references his back pain regularly. He walks stiffly and complains about making the daily walk to Kilima Village, and Najuma has to drag him to the Maji Market because he doesn't want to make the journey. Relations with Other Villagers As the player gets to know Najuma and Hodari, they learn that Leta was actually good friends with Zeki, and as a result of the player asking for Zeki's help with one of Najuma's inventions, Zeki begins visiting the Pavel household regularly, something which Hodari seems to approve of.

Hodari is, like many of the Kilima residents, deeply suspicious of Tamala, however he relies on her regularly to prepare sleeping draughts for his chronic insomnia, though he tries not to take one every night. He generally does not like to be indebted to anyone, but particularly doesn't want to owe her any favors.
