Walkthrough
- Hodari looks rather concerned when you talk to him. He will talk about his family situation and express concern about the mines. He jokes about a seance, but you take it seriously. You suggest talking to either Tamala or Elouisa about the cursed mines.
- After you manage to convince Hodari, go talk to either Tamala or Elouisa.
- Whether you talk to Tamala or Elouisa, they will ask you to bring materials to create some Cleansing Candles.
- You can find Firebreathing Dragonfly in Mirror Fields or use a Honey Lure at Mirror Fields to spawn many bugs and see if a Firebreathing Dragonfly also spawns in the area.
- Proudhorned Sernuk are the magical sernuk roaming in the upper area of Bahari Bay. It's suggested to use Dispel Arrow to prevent them from teleporting out of the map. Best to hunt in groups. Using a Hunter's Horn can help track this sernuk without having to run around everywhere.
- Brightshroom can be found growing along ruins, such as Flooded Steps, ruins between Hideaway Bluffs and Windy Ruins, Statue Garden, and small strip of ruin Northeast of Flooded Steps. You can also use a Dowsing Rod to locate rare forage items, including Brightshrooms!
- Return to Tamala or Elouisa and receive the Cleansing Candles. They will tell you to go to specific places marked on the map and to not mess up.
- Once you have placed the last candle, go to Hodari to give him an update on the situation. He will express to you that something feels different.

Introduction
Talking to Hodari
- Hodari
- (Player). Wish I could say it's good t'see you, but I ain't a good liar.
- Player
- Did I do something wrong?
- Hodari
- What? No, you ain't done nothin' but help since I met you.
- S'my family. Just got a letter from them.
- Get a load of this...
- "Dear Hodari, hope you're doing well out there in the wilderness! How's little Najuma doing? Bless your heart, looking after her all on your own."
- "Your cousin Timo's getting married next Spring, we hope you can make it up to visit. Even better, why don't you come on home?"
- "It's been long enough, and ma misses you something fierce. You know you're always welcome. Love from your worried sister, Shani."
- Player
- That's sweet of her.
- Hodari
- Sweet? You ain't met my sister, then. Read it again. She said "bless your heart."
- Player
- How dare she!
- Hodari
- You're jokin', but you ain't met my sister. She said "bless your heart".
- Player
- You have a sister?
- Hodari
- Got a whole big family back home. But my sister's always been the pushiest. Lookit this- "bless your heart"?
- Player
- Oh, I see.
- Player
- What's wrong with that?
- Hodari
- "Bless your heart" don't mean "bless your heart". She's judgin' me. Hard.
- She sends one of these letters at least once a year. I usually just toss 'em out, but...
- I don't know. Somethin' about this one's getting to me.
- Feels like nothin's gone right since I came out here. S'been fifteen years, tryin' to squeeze gold from these rocks.
- If it weren't for Najuma, I woulda left when the mines took Leta. Nearly did... but Leta loved this place.
- Najuma begged us to stay. Said she wanted to stay where her mom's heart was.
- She asks for so little... what kinda dad would I be if I couldn't let her keep her damn home?
- Player
- You're a good dad.
- Hodari
- I ain't... but I'm trying.
- Player
- Are the mines really dry?
- Hodari
- It don't make sense. According to every ore survey, these hills should be full of resources.
- Maybe the mines really are cursed.
- Player
- Cursed?
- Hodari
- Yeah. When we first moved up here, there were all sorts of rumors. Guess other miners've tried to make somethin' of this place and gone bust from it.
- But the real world don't work like that. It's my fault I can't make this work, not some made up curse.
- Player
- Is there some way I can help?
- Hodari
- Suppose you could always whip up a seance or a cleansin' or somethin'. That's what they call those things, don't they?
- M'jokin', of course. This problem's all on me.
- Player
- I've had worse ideas.
- Player
- I have to do SOMETHING.
- Player
- A cleansing could work...
- Player
- If it's this or move, I'm willing to help.
- Hodari
- You heard the part where I was jokin' right?
- I don't even know how to throw one, an' if I did, I wouldn't waste the time.
- Player
- We could ask Tamala.
- Hodari
- Her? She might curse us herself. Though, I suppose her sleepin' draught's always helped me out.
- Player
- We could ask Elouisa.
- Hodari
- Elouisa? Not sure I've ever actually spoken a word to her. I kinda wanted to keep it that way...
- Look. I ain't the boss of you, and I can't tell you what to do. You wanna follow this seance idea, I won't stop you.
- But I ain't about to put all my eggs in that particular basket.
Progression
Talking to Tamala or Elouisa
- Player
- Do you know how to lift a curse?
- Tamala
- I may have dabbled in a curse or two in my life. Why? Has someone targeted my dear companion?
- Player
- It's the mines.
- Tamala
- I see. Poor Hodari. I offered him my services before, you know. But he turned them down.
- Such a shame. I could have fixed his problem years ago, if only he'd listened.
- But you're a good listener, aren't you, (Player)?
- Player
- Get to the point.
- Tamala
- Straight to business. That's what I like about you, little lamb.
- Player
- I sure am!
- Tamala
- Mm, then be sure to listen hard, alright?
- Lifting a curse is relatively trivial to those who know what they're doing. I must admit, I have felt malicious energy coming from the mines myself.
- Player
- Hm, what'd you say?
- Tamala
- How cute.
- Something like that will need strong materials to combat... but don't you worry.
- There's nothing I can't handle.
- Gather these materials and return when you're done.
- And, (Player)? I'd suggest haste. Something out there is hungry, and it's losing patience.
- Player
- Do you know how to lift a curse?
- Elouisa
- It just so happens I have been working on a new theory about the Magistrate. I believe she must be cursed. Why else would she be in such a mood all the time?
- Player
- It’s actually about the mines.
- Elouisa
- The mines! Yes, they’re crawling with Creepees! I am surprised the Pavel family has lasted this long, considering.
- A Creepee infestation is a nasty business. They’re quite hard to get rid of, but never fear. I know just the trick.
- It’ll require some ingredients, of course. Just get these for me and I’ll whip something up.
Upon bringing Tamala or Elouisa the ingredients
- Player
- I brought the ingredients.
- Tamala
- Good, I thought you'd keep me waiting. Just a moment, darling.
- ...There. Take these candles. You'll need to place them at very specific spots in the mine. I will mark your map.
- And whatever you do, (Player), don't make a mistake. It would reflect poorly on me after all.
- Player
- I brought the ingredients.
- Elouisa
- Oh, excellent! Yes, these look fresh. Let me check the taste-
- Ooh! That antler has a kick! Perfect. Now, let me just-
- There. Take these candles. You will need to place them at each of the Creepee nests in the mines.
- I will mark the spots on your map. Do be careful, (Player), Creepees are not to be trifled with!
Receive: 4 Cleansing Candles
Completion
Talking to Hodari after placing the Cleansing Candles
- Hodari
- You're back. How'd the... 'seance' go?
- Player
- (Tell him)
- Hodari
- If she sensed somethin' so dark from the mines, why didn't she fix it sooner?
- Hodari
- "Creepees", huh? Now I've heard everythin'.
- When I went into the mines earlier, they felt... different. Not sure how to explain it.
- I feel a little foolish, buyin' into all this stuff, but I can't deny there's somethin' I don't understand at work here.
- I know when I'm beat. Can only hope this helps.
- Thanks, (Player). It's comfortin', knowin' I can rely on you.
- I just hope you know you can do the same for me. Anythin' you need, anythin' at all, you just call. I'll come runnin'.
- Metaphorically, at least. I don't need to sprain anything.
