Welcome to Palia is a Main Quest given by Jina when you first start the game.

Description

“ You just arrived in the wonderful world of Palia! Time to get settled in. Jina told you that Ashura is responsible for helping out newcomers. Find him by following the villager icon on the compass. ”

Objectives

Part 1

Part 2

Ashura told you to go find Hodari at your Housing Plot. Look for the gate icon on your map or compass to find your plot.

Part 3

It's time to prepare a place for yourself, but first you need to clean it up a bit. Use your axe and pickaxe to remove the debris left by the house that used to be here. You can tell which elements are debris by looking for the objects that sparkle.

  • 0/3 Clear some debris from the plot.
↷ Return to Hodari

Part 4

Place your work table by selecting it in your action bar. Then move it into place.

  • Place your worktable.

Part 5

Now that you have a work table, you can build yourself a place to sleep. Interact with the worktable to open up the crafting menu.

  • Craft a tent at the workbench.
  • Place your tent.

Part 6

Greet your first visitor! You can find him by the mailbox.

  • Talk to Auni when he visits your plot.

Part 7

Interact with the mailbox to read your mail.

  • Check your mail and pick up any item deliveries.
↷ Return to Auni

Part 8

Time to begin your new life here in Palia! Go through the gate to leave your plot and join your new friends.

Walkthrough

  1. After talking to Jina, either talk to Hekla or head out of the cave. Your compass is located at the top center of the screen. Follow the villager icon marked on your compass!
  2. Talk to Ashura when you find him at the bridge.
  3. Ashura will teleport you to your new Housing Plot, where you'll find Hodari.
  4. At the housing plot, you'll see that the Chapaas have destroyed your housing sign. Hodari will also be kind of clearing some debris. Talk to him.
  5. Using either the Makeshift Axe or Makeshift Pick, clear some debris. You will find an Ancient... Thing? Ancient... Thing? that not even Hodari has a clue about.
    • Use the axe and pick to clear barrels and broken walls from the plot three times. You must loot the drops for the quest to progress. Trees and rocks do not count as debris.
  6. After clearing some debris, Hodari will give you a Worktable. Place that on your plot.
    • There are several methods to place your items in your plot:
      • Select the item on the action bar and click (on PC) or (on Switch) to pop it on your plot. Then find a place you like and click to place.
      • Enter the editing grid ( or ). Then select the item on your action bar. Then find a place you like and click to place.
      • Press or to get a top-down view of the plot, making it easier to place the tent.
    • Clear a large enough area on your plot to make room for the tent. Open the Worktable by interacting with it ( or ) and craft a Makeshift Tent. Place the tent the same way you placed the workbench.
  7. Turn around and be surprised because Auni is waiting to talk to you. He came to deliver your very first mail! Read them and grab any attachments.
    • Auni should appear as soon as you place the tent.
    • Use the mailbox by walking up to it and pressing or . Click on the sender's name on the left to read the letter. Click on the Claim button to add any attachments to your inventory. Click on the next sender's name to read another letter or click the back arrow on the top left to close the screen.
  8. Return to Auni to conclude the conversation and get the gifts he has for you.
  9. Leave your housing plot by walking through the gate to start your new life in Palia!

Upon logging into the game for the first time

OH. MY. DRAGON!!!
Did... did... you... just... materialize from nowhere?

...I honestly have no idea.
Jina
Right, you probably don't know anymore about your situation than I do.
It's just, none of the other Humans knew either. Which leaves me right back at square one.
Player
Other Humans?
Jina
Yep, you're not the first Human I've seen in Palia.
Just the first I've seen... you know, appear in a giant cocoon of light.

Player
More like from a spiraling pink void.
Jina
Oh, oh! Tell me more about the void.
None of the other Humans remember where they came from. So this is kinda a big deal.

Player
Sorry, that's all I've got.
Jina
Right...we'll talk about all that later once you're settled in.

Player
Other Humans?
Jina
Yep, you're not the first Human I've seen in Palia.

Wow...I mean, I'd heard Humans had starting appearing out of nowhere in sacred sites around Palia.
But, I didn't know that meant appearing LITERALLY OUT OF NOWHERE.

We should slow down. Why don't you take this map and head into town where you can talk to Ashura, the Innkeeper? He's been helping others like you get settled in.
I would help you myself, but I'm working on something here, and I'm this close to figuring it out.
I was so caught off guard I realized I forgot to introduce myself or explain why I'm here. The name's Jina. I'm an apprentice scholar researching these old ruins.
And this here is my research assistant, Hekla! Be sure to ask her if you have any questions. I've gotta get back to the grind.

Progression

Upon interacting with Ashura

Ashura
Hi, there! [sic] It's always good to see a new face in the village.
Welcome to Kilima! I'm sure this is quite a lot to take in.
I'm Ashura, the innkeeper at the Ormuu's Horn. Unfortunately, there isn't any room at the inn right now.
But we do have some old plots where you could build yourself a tent.
Whaddya say? You wanna take in the great outdoors?

Player
Nothing like sleeping under the stars!
Ashura
The night sky here is beautiful. I'm sure you'll love it.

Player
I'm not the camping type.
Ashura
I hear you. I slept in a tent for years while I was a soldier, never quite got used to it.
Well, after you get your tent set up, maybe we can talk to the mayor about getting you in something more permanent.

Player
I'm just glad I have a place to sleep.
Ashura
I would want someone to set me up with a place to sleep and something to eat if I materialized out of nowhere!
Why would I not do the same for you?


So, let's see, to build a tent you're going to need to collect some materials.
I've got an axe here for you, but you'll have to talk to our resident miner Hodari about the pick.
Lucky for you, he's checking out the plots right now. Why don't we head on over so you can meet him?

Well, you found it, so you keep it. S'your plot after all.
I've got other plots to inspect, but there should be space to drop this worktable down now. I suggest you focus on getting a roof over your head and a place to keep your things before you worry about glowin' tubes.

I go fix up another plot, and get another one of you moved in. Stream's been near constant since the first one came.

Whew, good, you haven't left yet!
My mom, Delaila, told me there was another new Human in town, and here you are! I ran ALL the way from the farm here!
She wanted you to have this housewarming gift: fresh dairy from the Daiya family farm! Welcome to Kilima!
And I wanted you to have your mail! I'm Auni, and I handle all the deliveries around here.
Twice a day every day, rain or shine! Six in the morning and six at night!
So, I think it's safe to say my job is about to get A LOT more interesting.
Do you like getting mail? You look like someone who would like getting mail...

Good! Then I bet you'll be happy with what I have for you.

I have been informed by Jina that you have emerged fully formed from the swirling mist. This is wonderful news! Happy day of mist-birthing to you, new human.

Other humans call me Einar, and I would like to share with you the joy of fishing. Please take this rod into your possession and seek me out at your nearest convenience. I shall be located at the pier for the next few millenia.

I gotta run now, but if you stop by later I'll give you some tips on how to use them.
But I bet you're hungry right now. You should talk to my dad, Badruu, to learn how to grow food. And Reth, who works at the inn, can teach you how to cook it!

Beyond that, you shall have to answer the question of "what you are" for yourself. As do we all.

Who are you?
Hekla
I am Hekla. It is my duty to aid and protect the young scholar known as Jina.
We have stumbled upon you during a routine excavation of the ruins of this ancient Human city.
This occurence...comes as a great surprise to young Jina.
I on the other hand, found it inevitable.
You were bound to return one day...why not today?

Why was your friend so freaked out?
Hekla
Organic beings are often shocked at the emergence of new things, are they not?
This world has not seen your kind in thousands of rotations.
Be patient with it as it learns to accomodate [sic] you once again.

Notes

  • This is the very first quest you get in the game.
  • At the end of your conversation with Jina, you receive Focus.png 100 Focus, even though it's not listed as a reward.
  • When you place the Worktable, the recipes for the Makeshift Tent and Wooden Storage Chest are already available, even though they are not listed as rewards.
  • You can't travel to Bahari Bay until you've placed your tent.
  • The only Players you will see are the ones that are also on this quest.

Update History

Build 0.169.1:

  • The quest marker for the "Welcome to Palia" quest is no longer missing

Build 0.169:

  • The Housing Plot teleport icon now appears on the compass and map as expected during the quest.

Build 0.166:

  • Auni's dialogue line was changed from "She wanted you to have this housewarming gift. Welcome to Kilima!" to the one mentioned in the dialogue transcript.
  • Auni now gives milk instead of butter.

Build 0.165.6:

  • Players who were stuck on their housing plot after completing the tutorial should now be able to leave.
