Tools are used in various ways to collect resources.

Upgrades

Almanac of Palia

All tools have four tiers: Makeshift, Standard, Fine, and Exquisite.

Players begin with Makeshift tools which can be upgraded at the Worktable with planks and metal bars.

The recipes for tool upgrades can be purchased at their corresponding Guild Stores upon reaching certain levels in that skill. Tools must be upgraded in ascending order since each upgrade requires the previous tier tool as one of the crafting materials.

The planks and metal bars needed for each tier of the upgrade are:

Tier Materials Unlocked At
Standard Skill Level 3
Fine Skill Level 6
Exquisite Skill Level 9

Durability

All tiers except for Makeshift suffer from durability loss with use and must be repaired at a Repair Station.

Repairs

Tools can be repaired in four locations:

The cost of Gold or Repair Kits for a repair is proportional to how much durability loss the tool has suffered. Tool durability is displayed as a circular bar around the portrait of the tool. The durability bar is yellow-green when full or mostly full, and turns orange to red as it reaches full depletion. When the bar is fully depleted, the tool downgrades to the previous tier and must be re-upgraded at the Worktable.
